How Can You Help?
The 4-H Youth Development Program is carried on by almost 300 volunteer leaders in Tulare County communities, including the Visalia, Tulare, and Porterville areas. The 4-H volunteers give generously of their time, money, and facilities in conducting a successful and growing 4-H program. Last year, almost 1,000 young people were involved in various activities of the program, such as the community club program, county-wide events and 4-H Summer Camp. 4-H focuses on developing important life skills in our youth, fostering an interest in citizenship, leadership, and community service. 4-H is committed to the “Step-it-up-2-Thrive” program which encourages youth to identify their “spark”, tapping into their true passion in life.
Funds donated are used throughout the year to support the 4-H members and adult leaders through their involvement with such activities as the annual Tulare County 4-H Field Day, demonstration and public speaking opportunities, 4-H Summer Camp, leadership conferences, achievement awards, educational assistance, and outreach programs. These funds also support adult volunteer development and leadership training materials and equipment. By investing in this positive youth development program, you are investing in the development of our youth – our most valuable natural resource.
Please read the adjacent letter from a 4-H member explaining how the 4-H program has changed her life.

Dear Tulare County 4-H Sponsoring Committee:
I first joined Tulare 4-H when I was eleven and in the sixth grade. That first year of 4-H I was in rabbits and cake decorating. After my first year, I didn’t want to leave my new found love, the Tulare 4-H club. I loved everything that 4-H offered to me from the projects you could be in, all the leadership opportunities and the friends I made. Everything that 4-H offered to me, that I have participated in, has helped made me into the person I am today.
Me Shearing Sheep For A Show

As I got older and more involved in 4-H and took on leadership roles and responsibility. I served in several officer positions, including Vice President for two years, Sergeant at Arms, Song and Recreation, and Secretary. I have also been a Teen leader for scrap booking, rabbits, rocketry, sheep, and foods and nutrition. Before I knew it, I had four rabbits and was involved in nine projects. I am active in Hi 4-H, a countywide group dedicated to citizenship and leadership development, I have achieved my gold star and I am serving a second term as a Tulare County All Star, which gives me the opportunity to assist the Tulare County 4-H Youth Development Program at the county, regional and state levels.
Me Showing Rabbits At County Fair

I am currently a senior at Mission Oak High School. I want to work to become a large animal vet. I use skills that I acquired through 4-H every day; communication, leadership and life skills. The past seven years in the Tulare 4-H club and the Tulare County Hi 4-H has been the best years of my life and it has changed me for the good. I use to be shy and wanted nothing to do with other people I did not know, now since 4-H, I can speak in front of strangers and talk to people I do not know. If my parents had not taken me to a 4-H meeting and I had not stayed in, I would not be the person I am today.
Sincerely,
Loggan Childress
